The Zürich Salon

A provenance office and a small salon, opened in 2004 in the old town of Zürich, a short walk from the offices of the Turing Registry. Keepers in Europe are received here, certificates inspected and heritage pieces shown.

Why Zürich

The Turing Registry opened in Zürich in 2003. The house had not yet filed anything with it and did not expect to, but the President judged that a house which certifies the provenance of its pieces ought to keep its papers within walking distance of the institution most likely, one day, to ask to see them. The Salon opened the following year in three rooms on the first floor of a house in the old town.

What is there

  • The provenance office, with a certified copy of every certificate issued to a keeper in Europe, and the means to issue certified copies.
  • The salon, where a small group of the house’s own pieces is shown, changed each spring. In 2026 it is a mantel clock with a sleeping fox (1925), the Weather Child (1934) and a singing bird of 2019. These are the house’s own pieces in its own salon; the house does not lend its pieces to anyone else.
  • A servicing desk, which receives pieces from keepers in Europe and sends them to Seattle with the house’s own carriers.

The Rosen Owl was shown here for one week in May 2025, its only journey from the House, under the condition of its license and with its plaque.

Visiting

The Salon receives visitors by appointment, Wednesday to Friday, up to eight at a time. It does not keep a public telephone line; please write to house@rosenassociation.org with “Zürich” in the subject, or request an appointment. Six people work at the Salon. They speak German, French, Italian and English.
