In place of a notice of disposal

Returning a piece

Many makers publish a notice on the safe disposal of their products. The house publishes this instead, because a Rosen piece is never disposed of. It is returned.

Please do not throw it away

A Rosen piece contains springs under tension, small parts, glass and, in the case of Penfield instruments, a cell that should not go into household waste. More importantly, it contains the work of the people named on its certificate. The house will take back any piece it has made, at any age and in any condition, at its own expense, and will thank you for it.

How to return a piece

Write to Keeper Services at keepers@rosenassociation.org with the certificate number. The house will send packing for small pieces and its own carriers for large ones. Penfield Mk IV instruments returned during the suspension are refunded in full.

What happens to it

A returned piece is examined, recorded and, if it can be, restored and kept in working order at the House. Its certificate is not closed; the Register notes that the piece has come home. Pieces that cannot be restored are taken apart, and their parts are kept for the mending of others.

The house does not destroy what it has made. Nexus-6 units recovered under the recall are withdrawn and stored at Everett, and their certificates closed with the words withdrawn, not destroyed.
