How units are identified
By their papers. Every unit left Everett with a certificate of provenance, a commissioning record and five hallmarks on the left wrist plate. The Recall Office matches all three. It does not identify units by testing, because the line was recalled when the tests then in use stopped working, and nothing since has given us reason to think that any test now can.
What we ask
- If you hold any paper relating to a Nexus-6 unit, please write to the Recall Office, with a photograph of the paper if you can.
- If you believe you know where a unit is, please write, and say only what you know.
- Please do not attempt to establish by questioning or testing whether a person is a unit. The attempt does not work, and it is distressing for the very large number of people who are not.
What happens to a recovered unit
A recovered unit is brought to Everett, where its papers are checked against its hallmarks. It is then withdrawn from service and stored, and its certificate is closed in the Register with the date and the words withdrawn, not destroyed. The house does not destroy what it has made. The Articles require it to keep the means to mend whatever it has made, and the house has never found a reason to read that requirement narrowly.
