From the house

The Works open at Everett

The house today opened the Works, a former boatyard on the waterfront at Everett, thirty miles north of the House. It is the first workshop the Association has kept outside the House since 1911, and it has been opened for a single purpose: to build the Nexus-6, if the Turing Registry licenses it.

The Works will be led by Ingrid Halvorsen-Vey, who joins the house from twenty years building ships. It has forty benches, a commissioning hall in the long room at the north end, and a loading dock on the water. Its makers will be trained at the House, will sign certificates entered in the same Register and will strike the same marks.

The Atelier remains at the House and will make the first hand of every Nexus series, as it made the hands of the five studies. The Works will make the rest.

The President, opening the Works, said that the house had never before built anything it could not carry up the stairs of the House, and that he did not expect the Works to change the house in any other respect.
