Notice of the election of a President, 1960

Printed notice, posted in the entrance hall of the House and sent to every Associate, 19 March 1960. From the Archive.

The Secretary to the Association gives notice that the Council of Associates met on Saturday 19 March to elect a President for the seven years from that date, Ada Rosen having declined to stand again after twenty-eight years.

Two Associates were proposed: Linus Rosen, movement maker, proposed by the Master of the Atelier; and Hesper Rosen, ocularist, proposed by the eldest Associate. Each addressed the Council for ten minutes. Mr. Rosen spoke on the house’s finances and the reserve; Miss Rosen spoke on the eyes, and on what she called the house’s duty to say what its pieces are.

Forty-one Associates voted by ballot. Linus Rosen received twenty-two votes and Hesper Rosen nineteen. Mr. Rosen is elected President.

The Council records its thanks to both candidates, and its hope, expressed by the new President, that the house will hear from Miss Rosen often on the matter of which she spoke. She remained at the ocularist’s bench until 1991.
