A letter to the City about the name of the lane

Letter from the President to the City Council of Seattle, 18 May 1931, from the house’s letter book.

Gentlemen,

The Association thanks you for your resolution of the eleventh instant, naming the lane on which our house stands for Mrs. Euphemia Aske.

Mrs. Aske has lived and worked at the house since its first winter. She makes eyes, of glass, for the museums of natural history of this country and several others, and for our own pieces, and she has made them so well that the children of the neighborhood, who are admitted on Saturdays, will not look a stuffed fox in the face. She is seventy-four years of age and continues at her bench each morning.

She asks me to say that she would have preferred the lane to be named for the house, and that she will answer to it nonetheless.

With the respectful thanks of the Association,
Tobias Rosen, President
